Dr T S Surendran is the Vice Chairman of Sankara Nethralaya and Director of Paediatric Ophthalmology Department. He obtained his M.B.B.S degree from the University of Madras in 1976. Then he completed his M.S. & M. Phil (Hospital Management) from Birla Institute of Technology & Science in 1988 and 1994. He did one year training in Squint & Contact Lens at R P Centre, A.I.I.M.S., New Delhi , India . He underwent four months training in binocular vision, contact lens, low vision AIDS, school of optometry, Berkeley , California , USA - 1987 and three months training in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Children's Hospital, Boston , Mass, USA . He was also trained at Smith Kettlewell Eye Institute under Alan Scott, MD on treatment of Injection Botulinum toxin in the Management of strabismus and Blepharospasm.

He is the consultant in the Paediatric Ophthalmology department since 1979. He is the Director – Sankara Nethralaya – ORBIS Paediatric Ophthalmology Learning and Training Centre as well as President of Sankara Nethralaya Alumni Association.

His areas of specialization are Contact Lenses, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Low Visual Aids & Botulinium Toxin in Blepharospasm and Strabismus. He was awarded Youth Excellence Award for the year 1985 and Lt. Col. Rangachari Award for the paper titled 'Paediatric Portable Keratometer', Presented at the All India Ophthalmic Society at Ahmedabad 1990. “For the Sake of Honour Award” by Rotary club of Madras Southwest for the year 2007. “Dr. Joseph Gnanadhickam Gold Medal Oration Award” for the year 2007 by Dr. Joseph Gnanadhickam Memorial Committee, Trichy for the outstanding contribution to the field of Ophthalmology awarded at Erode TNOA '07.

He has also delivered several invited lectures. Areas of Interest: Paediatric Ophthalmology, squint, contact lens, low vision Aids, Botox Injection & Aesthetics.

He is presently the President of Strabismological Society of India. Scientific committee chairman, Asia Pacific Academic of Paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus Recipient of For the sake of honour 2006 by Rotary club, chennai Recipient of Joseph Gnadickam Gold medal Recipient of Col Rangachari Gold medal AIOS, Ahmedabad. He also recient of Best Doctor Award from The Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University.
